NEW: The HRCDC welcomes a new committee member – Dr Fionnuala Gough

Posted:

Fionnuala Gough qualified as a medical doctor from University College, Dublin in 1989. She initially undertook training in general medicine, and then in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Following a number of years in clinical practice, she undertook a MMedSC (Pharmacology) in 1996 at UCD. An interest in the interaction of law and medicine led her to do an LLB (2007) though the Open University, and later a PhD in Bioethics and Medical Jurisprudence (2012) at the University of Manchester, UK. In recent years she has taught healthcare ethics, law and professionalism to both undergraduate and postgraduate students in Dublin City University, Trinity College, Dublin, RCSI Bahrain and Dublin, RCPI and the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland. She re-joined Trinity’s medical school in June 2025. Over the course of her career, she engaged in research in different forms and fields, from laboratory-based scientific studies, hospital-based systematic reviews of clinical procedures and qualitative research. She was an active member of the REC in SJH/Tallaght for 9 years, and the REC in RCSI-Bahrain for two years.

We welcome Fionnuala’ s input on the committee and she attended her first HRCDC meeting on 11th November 2025.
